We are told that Heaven is of unimaginable splendor. We are taught that time is definitely not on our measure and in fact we may expect it does not exist as we know it here on earth. The Bible teaches it is a place where pain, sadness, and sickness simply do not exist. Missing limbs, blind eyes and even horribly burnt bodies are not possible and do not exist there either.
Skeptics of the Bible often base their opinion of heaven on bad or made up assumptions. Amazingly, some think Angels have wings and there are folks playing harps while floating atop puffy white clouds. Others may suspect it could be a boring place full of "goody too shoes" Christians where people sit around reading the Bible over and over. To them, this is not their idea of a place to look forward to and certainly not their choice of things to do.
We are taught that Heaven is beyond description and even some of the evidence from NDE's and OBE's suggest some have been given a sampling of what is to come in Heaven. One thing is certain, it will not be boring nor over-estimated, and should we be given the chance to leave once there, we would find that thought a disturbing choice for we would want never to leave.
If we were allowed to visit all of Gods creation, that alone would take most of eternity. Our senses will likely are enhanced beyond description.
We will have physical bodies however without disease, pain, paper cuts or maintenance
There will be an all encompassing love and acceptance without expectations or requirements
We will relatives and others that have been passed on before us and which we did not know about
It will be a physical place, a restored Earth and the world around us, without war, crime or evil.
Below are but a few of the many verses in the Bible that address various characteristics of Heaven:
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away - Revelation 21:4
What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him - 1 Corinthians 2:9
Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise - Luke 23:43
The wall was built of jasper, while the city was pure gold, clear as glass - Revelation 21:18
The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald - Revelation 21:19
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? - John 14:2
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. - 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
