Good and Evil are like light and dark, when you remove a light, you get darkness, one is defined by removal of the other. God created everything perfectly however once given a choice, man chose to disobey. God did not create evil but rather Satan and man chose not to follow God's directions.
Mankind is capable of an almost unlimited level of depravity toward one another. One of the most horrific moments in history was that of Unit 731, a Japanese facility that conducted human experimentation. It is estimated that 12,000 + men, women, and children were murdered in the name of science from 1937-1945.
Prisoners of war were subjected to vivisection without anesthesia. Vivisections were performed on prisoners after infecting them with various diseases. Scientists performed invasive surgery on prisoners, removing organs to study the effects of disease on the human body. These were conducted while the patients were alive because it was feared that the decomposition process would affect the results. Human targets were used to test grenades positioned at various distances and in different positions. Flame throwers were tested on humans. Humans were tied to stakes and used as targets to test germ-releasing bombs, chemical weapons, and explosive bombs. Prisoners were injected with inoculations of disease, disguised as vaccinations, to study their effects. To study the effects of untreated venereal diseases, male and female prisoners were deliberately infected with syphilis and gonorrhea, then studied. Prisoners were infested with fleas in order to acquire large quantities of disease-carrying fleas for the purposes of studying the viability of germ warfare. Plague fleas, infected clothing, and infected supplies encased in bombs were dropped on various targets.
Looking back into history, you will find horrific acts of evil perpetuated against innocent people by other individuals and nations that were able to justify their acts as being the mechanisms for good. Tyrants like Adolph Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Josef Mengele, Vlad the Impaler, Nero, Caligula and a really long list of other twisted and evil people. Genghis Khan is thought to have massacred some 20-60 million people in his quest to dominate. Can you imagine that magnitude of death inflicted by a ruler today? Clearly, mankind has not solved this problem by any stretch of the imagination.
If you were to look at the fall of Lucifer (Satan) as spoken of in the Bible, you will see that pride was the root of his fall. He was the most beautiful creation and the ole boy let it get to him, mankind has the same problem.
Of course, pride got the better of Lucifer and from his acts we have the five I Will's that symbolize the actions he took. He Said:
- I WILL ascend into heaven.
- I WILL exalt my throne above the stars of God.
- I WILL sit also upon the mount of the congregation.
- I WILL ascend above the heights of the clouds.
- I WILL be like the Most High.
These five acts of rebellion reflect the defiance of Lucifer and of course were the cause of his being booted out of God's presence.
Moses was given the 10 commandments from God for men to live by back in Old Testament times. There were several reasons for this, mankind without rules and law is little more than an animal. God used them to show mankind His standard and prove his inability to be good on his own. These laws also showed that man is incapable of being good enough to earn his acceptance from God.
- You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
- You shall not worship them or serve them.
- You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
- Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
- Honor your father and your mother.
- You shall not murder.
- You shall not commit adultery.
- You shall not steal.
- You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
- You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
Truly ‘evil’ people are those who are unable to empathize with others. As a result, their own needs and desires are of paramount importance to them. They are selfish, self-absorbed and narcissistic. In fact, other people only provide value for them to the extent that they can help them satisfy their own desires, or to which they can exploit them for their own purposes.
This level of evil applies to dictators like Stalin and Hitler, and to serial killers and rapists and you can argue that their primary characteristics are an inability to empathize with others. They cannot sense other people’s emotions or their level of suffering and can’t see the world from other people’s perspective. Other human beings are just objects to them, which is what makes their brutality and cruelty possible.
To those that think mankind can one day live in peace, it cannot happen, it is in our very nature when we are born we come out screaming. As children, we want what we want when we want it and it only gets worse as time allows.
Shown below are some pictures from Nazi death camps and the contrast of the prisoners lives, compared to their tormentors.
In this first picture, we see the everyday life of the Nazi death camp vacationers. After long periods of emotionally draining duty, they yearn to just find some rest and time back into a somewhat regular life.
This second picture shows some of the ladies from the camp enjoying a blueberry desert and the lady in the middle is apparently comically crying because she is out of blueberries.
However back at the camp, it is a very different situation.
And others continue to roll in. The Germans had reduced murdering innocent men, women, and children to a routine job. They had corrupted a value system so completely that they could justify their actions and live guilt free for the most part.
